On January 21, 2025, the Texas Department of Public Safety chased Kimberly Lannigan, 59, at high speed along State Highway 6 near Navasota, Texas, for undisclosed reasons. During the pursuit, Lannigan’s vehicle collided head-on with a patrol car driven by Sergeant Mark Butler of the Navasota Police Department. Both Lannigan and Butler were killed in the collision. The circumstances surrounding the pursuit and crash are under investigation by the Texas Department of Public Safety.
