On 09/18/2025, Blaze Aleczander Balle-Mason, 17, called 911 from a Conoco gas station in Aurora and claimed he had a 9mm handgun. He threatened to shoot people and said he would fire on police when they arrived. Officers responded and gave repeated commands for him to show his hands. He kept his hands in his pockets and advanced toward officers. Less-lethal foam rounds were fired but did not stop him. An officer then opened fire, fatally wounding him. Backup was requested, and officers said that Peters later exited the vehicle and raised the weapon toward them. Officers opened fire, striking and killing him. The incident remains under investigation by the Indiana State Police.
