On January 21, 2025, Fullerton Police Department officers attempted to stop a white Nissan Rogue near North Gilbert Street and West Malvern Avenue after reports of grocery store shoplifting where someone had allegedly stolen Legos. The driver continued driving. Officers escalated a high-speed chase, ran a red light at the intersection of La Palma Avenue and Moody Street in La Palma, and finally crashed into a blue BMW driven by a bystander Marianne Mildred Casey who died on impact. The California Highway Patrol is investigating the incident.
