Kevin Matthews was believed to have killed two people in Knoxville, Tennessee. He was tracked by US Marshals across several states and was discovered in a motel in Jacksonville, Florida. When police arrived to arrest him, a shot was heard. He had shot himself in the head and died from suicide in his hotel room.

Racine Police were called for a man who was seen lying on the ground on a path. When police arrived, he allegedly fired a shot toward them. Orange County Sheriff’s gang unit deputies were conducting surveillance on a house with multiple people being under surveillance for possible gang-related activity. Tristan Mayberry, 19, left the house with a gun according to police who escalated a confrontation at a nearby gas Seven Eleven station. Police claim that Mayberry made a "suspicious motion" and they shot and killed him. Bodycam is linked below and only shows him in a convenience store, committing no crimes, defensively walking away from an aggressive cop with a gun pointed at his head. A second officer corners him and he is shot and killed in the middle. Police stated that he had a gun or pointed a gun in various forms but this is not seen on BWC. Police were called to Howden Street where a man threatened someone with a knife. Police shot and killed the man.

An officer drove across an intersection and ran a red light with allegedly blue lights on but no siren at 11 p.m. and pulled into the path of a motorcycle. The police vehicle caused Sumner Howard to crash his motorcycle, killing him. Fox10 pulled the crash report and found that a brick building to the right blocks the view of any approaching cars from the south, which means Howard likely never saw the police car. It had no sirens and Howard very likely was completely unaware of the police car that ran the red light and suddenly blocked his lane.

The intersection has a known blind spot. Police allege that he was speeding through red lights because he was on an “emergency call” but did not disclose what emergency they were chasing. The lack of sirens late at night was also not explained by MPD.

Mobile PD finally disclosed that the officer was Roy Adams Jr. This was the fourth crash he has caused in 2024 alone. Two of the crashes occurred on the same day separately. Another crash happened when he fell asleep while driving his patrol car. Another crash happened when he was seen running a stop sign. The final crash occurred on 7/9/2024 during which he killed Sumner Howard.

This is the second motorcyclist killed in Mobile in 2024 by negligent MPD officers. The first case, motorcyclist Robert Sayen who was killed by MPD while riding a motorcycle, is currently before a grand jury. The officer in the Sayen crash was Callegari.

Cherokee Police shot and killed a person in the Qualla Boundary on Cherokee tribal land. The killing is being investigated by the FBI as a Native American victim is involved. Identity and details of the shooting have not been released.

Asheville PD were called to a domestic violence event and found a woman with a gunshot wound to the head outside of the home. Gregory Wayne Holden was apparently locked inside of the apartment. Police created a standoff and used drones to enter the apartment. They found Holden dead from suicide.

Elkhart SWAT arrived at a domestic violence situation and Ryan Snyder, 37, locked himself into the home with 2 of his children. Officer Dynelle Jones from Vallejo PD saw a car reported stolen and escalated a chase that ended when the vehicle crashed on Broadway. Police shot the windows out, allegedly to rescue the driver. Large amounts of blood were on the sidewalk. It is unknown whether the man died from injuries of the car chase crash or if he was shot by police but he died. This was the second car chase fatalities by Vallejo PD in 3 days.

Springfield PD arrived at the home of Sandra Massey in the 2800 block of Hoover Avenue following a 911 call reporting an intruder. Police arrived, shot her in the head and killed her in her home. Details are not released so far. Illinois State Police have refused to release the bodycam footage and are also not releasing the names of the shooter officers. Massey’s family has retained Ben Crump’s office on her behalf.

Officer Sean Grayson, the shooter, was fired and indicted for her murder when John Milhiser, the Sangamon US Attorney found the shooting to be unjustified.

Update: 07/18/2024: Officer Grayson ordered held without bond. Judge Ryan M. Cadagin denied Grayson pretrial release at a hearing on 07/18/2024 in Springfield. Judge Cadagin described the role of Deputy Grayson in the killing as “such a departure from the expectations of a civil society.” Deputy Grayson had shot Sonya Massey in the face. The deputy had apparently ordered her to move a pot of water, shot her in the face and then discouraged his partner from saving her life once shot.

A Troy PD cruiser spotted a bicycle and demanded to speak with the man. The bicyclist kept driving and the officer soon chased the bike with his cruiser, activating his lights and sirens while closely following until the man made a shortcut through a backyard and fell into the Hudson River and drowned while being chased for undisclosed reasons.

On July 6, 2024, Union Parish deputies responded to a call about a distressed woman threatening self-harm on Louisiana Highway 549. The woman, later identified as 56-year-old Karla Valentine from Dry Prong, Louisiana, was reportedly armed and on the front steps of a residence when officers arrived. Authorities attempted to de-escalate the situation, but it escalated when Valentine allegedly fired at deputies. The deputies returned fire, striking Valentine. She was hospitalized and later transferred to Shreveport. The Northeast Louisiana Sheriff’s Investigative Unit is reviewing the incident​.
