Officers from multiple agencies responded to a weapons complaint involving Schace Wayne Looking Horse near Green Grass on 08/05/2025. Looking Horse began fleeing in a vehicle into Haakon County, during which he fired multiple shots at law enforcement vehicles, causing damage but no officer injuries. After disabling his vehicle, Looking Horse took a hostage at gunpoint and forcibly stole a second vehicle.

He continued fleeing with the hostage until the second vehicle became immobilized. At this point, law enforcement officers confronted Looking Horse, and during a prolonged standoff, officers opened fire, fatally shooting him. The hostage sustained minor injuries but survived. No officers were physically harmed during the entire pursuit and standoff.

The South Dakota Division of Criminal Investigation is leading the investigation, with assistance from federal agencies due to the involvement of tribal and multiple county law enforcement units.

On 08/05/2025 at approximately 4:06 p.m., a Greensboro Police officer responded after being flagged down by a resident reporting a trespasser on Marion Street. Upon arrival, the officer encountered Said Ezzine, who refused multiple commands and became confrontational. Ezzine retrieved a weapon and advanced aggressively toward the officer. The officer then opened fire, striking Ezzine.

At approximately 1:30 p.m. on July 31, 2025, St. Louis police detectives were conducting surveillance on a Ford Fusion recently taken in an armed carjacking in the Hyde Park neighborhood. Officers observed a man, later identified as Carlos Jackson, approaching the vehicle.
