OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :
The incident began when Bensalem Police conducted a traffic stop near Route 1 and Old Lincoln Highway. Kerschner, who was driving the vehicle, refused to comply with officers, stating he was armed and would not return to jail. After a 45-minute standoff, he drove away. Police escalated a chase that ended at Bristol Pike and Penn Street. There, a second standoff ensued, during which police deployed tear gas. As officers fired a second round of tear gas, Kerschner allegedly pointed a handgun at them, prompting police to open fire. He was pronounced dead at Jefferson-Torresdale Hospital.
