On November 3, 2022, 22-year-old Avery James Borkovec was found unresponsive in his cell at the Boulder County Jail. He had been incarcerated since September 29, 2022, on charges of trespassing and failure to appear. Borkovec had exhibited severe back pain, vomiting, coughing, and weight loss, but was not provided with adequate medical care. An autopsy determined his death was caused by untreated bacterial sepsis.
