OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :
On 08/09/2021, Guadalupe County sheriff's deputies received information that a pickup truck involved in an aggravated kidnapping in Travis County was traveling eastbound on Interstate 10. Deputies and Guadalupe County constables located the vehicle near Highway 46 and attempted a traffic stop. The driver continued driving away while law enforcement pursued at speeds reaching approximately 100 mph. Investigators used the vehicle's OnStar system to remotely reduce the truck's speed, allowing deputies to bring it to a stop near the FM 2438 exit east of Seguin.
According to investigators, the driver immediately opened fire on deputies after the vehicle stopped. Deputies returned fire, striking him. Deputies attempted lifesaving measures, but he was pronounced dead at the scene. The Texas Rangers assumed the investigation into the shooting.
