On 06/04/2021, at approximately 12:10 p.m., Whittier Police Department officers responded to a call reporting a person with a gun near a city dog park in Whittier, California. Upon arrival, officers determined that the individual had already left the area.
Shortly thereafter, another officer located the man on a city-maintained bike trail near the 12400 block of Mar Vista Street. According to police, the man allegedly pulled a handgun out of his pocket. The officer opened fire, killing the man.

The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department is investigating the officer-involved shooting. The identity of the deceased and the involved officer(s) has not been publicly disclosed.

On 06/04/2021, Worcester Police pursued a 14-year-old boy through Green Hill Park. The chase ended when the boy entered the pond and began struggling in the water. Officer Enmanuel Familia jumped in to rescue him, but both drowned. Divers later recovered their bodies from the pond. The incident led to mourning across the city, with calls for better emergency water rescue equipment and training for officers.

On June 4, 2021, 73-year-old bystander Patsy S. Arnold of Smithville, Missouri, was killed during a police pursuit initiated by Lone Jack Police Department. Officers were pursuing a stolen 1999 Ford Ranger. During the chase, the vehicle crossed the median on U.S. 50 near Milton Thompson Road and crashed into Arnold's 2020 Ford Escape and another vehicle. Arnold was transported to Research Medical Center and pronounced dead.

On 06/04/2021, Braintree Police Department officers responded to a domestic disturbance call at an apartment complex located at 2 McCusker Dr in Braintree. Andrew Homen fled into the adjacent woods after the call. After a 45-minute search, a police K-9 unit located Homen. During the encounter, Homen killed the police dog and wounded an officer before being shot and killed by the police.

Deputies located Jerry Henley and attempted to take him into custody. During the encounter, deputies opened fire and shot Henley. He died at the scene. On 06/04/2021, Denver police responded to reports of a man driving around Martin Luther King Jr. Park while firing a gun from a vehicle. Officers located Colton Frederic Wagner near 38th Avenue and Newport Street. Police ordered Wagner to drop the firearm. During the encounter, officers opened fire and shot Wagner. On June 3, 2021, members of a U.S. Marshals Service task force attempted to arrest 32-year-old Winston Boogie Smith Jr. on an outstanding warrant for unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon. On 06/03/2021, an off-duty Phoenix police officer encountered William Alexander Brookins Sr. in a parking lot near 15th Avenue and Camelback Road. Brookins was holding a firearm and pointing it at two people who were believed to have shoplifted from a nearby business. The officer ordered Brookins to drop the weapon. Brookins did not comply. On 06/03/2021, San Antonio police officers responded to a disturbance call outside a business in the 2300 block of Castroville Road. Officers encountered Kolton Mitchell Chavez holding a knife. Police ordered Chavez to drop the knife. Chavez continued moving toward officers. Officers opened fire, striking Chavez. Chavez was transported to a hospital, where he died from his injuries. Police later released body-worn camera footage and 911 audio related to the incident.

On 06/02/2021, a pursuit by Los Angeles County Sheriff’s deputies ended in the City of Industry when a 2019 Nissan Sentra being chased for armed robbery reversed direction and crashed head-on into a Freightliner truck near the 60 Freeway and South Workman Mill Road. The vehicle’s passenger, 27-year-old James Dringenberg, was pronounced dead at the scene. Two other individuals in the vehicle were injured, one critically.

On 06/02/2021, Arvada police responded to reports that a man who had held a victim at gunpoint during an armed robbery and stolen her vehicle was at large. Officers located the suspect, identified as Eugene Matthews, in the 8100 block of Garland Drive. During the encounter, police shot Matthews, and he died from his injuries. On 06/02/2021, Arkansas State Police attempted to stop a motorcycle on U.S. Highway 70 near Hot Springs for failing to comply with emergency lights and siren. The rider, identified as Timothy Andrew Kemp, Jr. of Mountain Pine, fled on foot after abandoning the motorcycle at a dead end on Sunshine Road. A trooper followed Kemp into a wooded area and deployed a Taser during the attempt to detain him. A physical struggle ensued, during which Kemp grabbed the trooper’s firearm. The trooper then fired his weapon, fatally striking Kemp. Arkansas State Police special agents investigated the incident and prepared the case for review by the Garland County prosecutor. On June 1, 2021, at approximately 2:30 a.m., deputies from the St. Mary Parish Sheriff's Office and officers from the Berwick Police Department responded to a report of a suspicious individual near Sixth Street and Utah Street in Berwick, Louisiana. Robert Pearce, a 37-year-old male from New Iberia, ran away on foot. Police escalated a chase and alleged that Pearce attempted to enter a vehicle occupied by a female driver while holding an object they believed was a gun. Law enforcement opened fire, killing Pearce.
He was pronounced dead on the street by the St. Mary Parish Coroner's Office.

During transport, he became unresponsive. Green remained hospitalized and died three days later. The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner ruled his death a homicide, citing cardiac arrest caused by prone restraint. On May 31, 2021, at approximately 9:30 a.m., the Madison Parish Sheriff's Office requested assistance from the Louisiana State Police regarding an armed individual, Michael Jackson, a 29-year-old Black male from Vicksburg, Mississippi, who had locked himself in his vehicle on U.S. Highway 65, north of Tallulah, Louisiana.

Earlier that day, Jackson had fled from Warren County Sheriff's deputies in Mississippi, allegedly dragging them with his vehicle as they attempted to arrest him on outstanding warrants.

Upon being located by Madison Parish deputies, Jackson fled and crashed into a ditch alongside U.S. Highway 65. He then produced a handgun, leading deputies to secure the scene and call for assistance.

Louisiana State Police personnel, including police negotiators, arrived and engaged in a standoff. During this time, Jackson exhibited erratic behavior, such as shooting into his own vehicle and walking into an adjacent field with the firearm. The police fired less-lethal weapons in an attempt to disarm him. Subsequently, Jackson approached the safety perimeter and attempted to draw his handgun, prompting troopers to open fire, resulting in his death.

On 05/31/2021, deputies from the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department attempted to stop a motorcycle with no license plate in Yucca Valley. The rider, identified as 29-year-old Bilal Winston Shabazz of Lancaster, failed to stop, and police escalated a pursuit. Shabazz abandoned the motorcycle and fled on foot through several properties. On May 31, 2021, a Linn County deputy attempted to stop a reportedly stolen vehicle near Center Point. The juvenile driver did not stop, and officers escalated a chase that continued northbound on I-380 and westbound on Highway 150. In the 2800 block of Highway 150, both the driver and a juvenile passenger jumped from the moving vehicle. The driver was struck by the car and died at the scene. The vehicle continued moving and crashed into a home; no one inside was injured. The Iowa State Patrol is investigating.

On May 31, 2021, an Onalaska Police officer observed a motorcycle speeding on Highway 35. The officer attempted to stop the motorcycle at a stop sign, and although the rider initially appeared to comply, the motorcyclist sped off down Oak Avenue at an estimated speed of 100 mph. While notifying dispatch to end the pursuit, the officer witnessed the motorcycle crash into a 2018 Hyundai Tucson. The motorcyclist, identified as 33-year-old Tou Yia Lor, was thrown from the motorcycle and died from the injuries sustained in the crash. The driver of the Hyundai Tucson was injured.

On 05/31/2021, Tucson police officers responded to reports of gunshots in the area of Prince Road and Stone Avenue. Officers were told that Joshua Lee Moore had fired a gun outside his home and then gone back inside. Police later made contact with Moore in a backyard and ordered him to show his hands. According to police, Moore did not comply and was holding a revolver. Officer Antonio Pena fired, shooting and killing Moore at the scene. No officers were charged, and no final prosecutorial outcome beyond the initial review was publicly reported.

On 05/31/2021, Jemison police officers responded to a residence on County Road 954 after receiving reports that a man was threatening two other men with a firearm. Officers arrived and observed Roger Dale Keller holding a gun in the front yard. According to police, as an officer exited his patrol vehicle, Keller turned toward the officer and shots were exchanged. Keller was struck and died at the scene. On May 30, 2021, a Dinwiddie County deputy attempted to stop a black Mercedes SUV for speeding on I-85. The deputy reportedly lost sight of the SUV on Route 703 and ended the pursuit. During the pursuit, Bernal brandished a firearm, leading officers to discharge their weapons. Bernal was transported to University of Louisville Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries on May 31, 2021.

On May 30, 2021, at around 10:30 p.m., officers from the Milwaukee Police Department were dispatched to a report of shots fired. Upon arrival, officers heard gunshots and saw Roberto Zielinski armed on the front porch. Zielinski fled to the rear porch and continued to fire shots. Despite several orders from officers to drop his weapon, Zielinski reportedly refused to comply. In response to the threat, one officer shot and killed Zielinski during the confrontation.

Officers located Shannon Wright walking along the street nearby and ordered him to stop and raise his hands. Police reported that Wright continued walking despite commands. On 05/29/2021, a 26-year-old man, Michaellee Ramos Avieda, was chased by law-enforcement after a shooting in Minneapolis. The chase ended in Elk River, Minnesota at Proctor Avenue NW and Highway 10, where his vehicle crashed. The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension found Avieda dead inside the vehicle from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.

On 05/29/2021, officers from the Sherburne County Sheriff's Office, Minnesota State Patrol, and Elk River Police Department saw a vehicle thought to be connected to a shooting in Minneapolis heading east on Highway 10 in Big Lake. Deputies and troopers attempted to stop the vehicle, and Elk River police joined the pursuit. The man allegedly shot at the officers pursuing him. His vehicle crossed oncoming lanes of traffic and crashed through a barrier. The man was found dead in his car from a self-inflicted gunshot with a gun found near his body.

Officers attempted to make contact with the person inside the vehicle. Police reported that during the encounter, Matthew Wong discharged a firearm toward officers, striking the front windshield of a patrol vehicle. Officers then fired their weapons, shooting and killing Wong at the scene. The Orange County District Attorney later reviewed the incident and determined the shooting was justified. No officers were charged.
