On 03/25/2021 at approximately 3:45 p.m., Beaumont Police Department officers attempted to stop a Honda sedan in connection with an ongoing criminal investigation. Police did not publicly identify the underlying offense that prompted the stop. The male driver accelerated away from officers, and police pursued.

The pursuit continued into the 2300 block of Liberty Avenue, where the Honda left the roadway and crashed into a business. The driver suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene by Jefferson County Justice of the Peace Benjamin Collins.

A passenger in the Honda survived and was transported by Beaumont EMS to a local hospital. Contemporary reporting did not disclose the passenger's identity or condition.
