On January 27, 2021, San Antonio police stopped Erick Mejia, 26, who was driving an 18-wheeler, for a traffic violation. Mejia fled on foot into South Park Mall and exited through Dick’s Sporting Goods, where he was confronted by officers. Police stated Mejia raised a firearm toward them, and officers opened fire, killing him.
