On January 10, 2021, at approximately 5:30 p.m., Killeen Police Department officers responded to a psychiatric call at a residence in the 1600 block of Carrollton Avenue. Officer Reynaldo Contreras arrived and encountered 52-year-old Patrick Lynn Warren Sr., who was described as being in emotional distress. Contreras initially used a Taser, but it reportedly failed to incapacitate Warren. The officer then opened fire, striking Warren multiple times. Warren was transported to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The incident, which was captured on video, sparked public outcry and demands for accountability.
