Police arrived at a residence to serve warrants on Jeffrey D. Kite for violating a protective order. Kite, who lived at the residence, refused to come out of the home. Police subsequently obtained a search warrant to enter the home and additional arrest warrants for stalking and violation of a protective order. About 9 p.m., Kite stopped communicating with them. Around 3 a.m., officers entered the home and found him hiding in a storage area. Police allege that Kite produced a gun and fired at the officers, who shot and killed him.

On 01/13/2021, officers from the Iberville Parish Sheriff's Office and Louisiana State Police pursued a vehicle on I-10 near the Louisiana Avenue exit in Lafayette, Louisiana. On 01/13/2021, South Carolina Highway Patrol investigated a pedestrian traffic fatality when a vehicle bystander accidentally drove through the collision scene and struck the dead pedestrian, James Jackson, and continued driving. A South Carolina Highway Patrol trooper escalated a chase on North Road with lights and sirens. On January 13, 2021, at approximately 3:30 a.m., Oklahoma Highway Patrol (OHP) troopers and Oklahoma City Police Department officers escalated a chase of a stolen Lincoln Navigator up to 115 mph. The vehicle was driven by 17-year-old Vinnie Hamlet, the twin brother of Chris Hamlet, with Chris and a 17-year-old female passenger. Troopers used a Tactical Vehicle Intervention (TVI) maneuver, directly causing the SUV to flip multiple times and land in a field near Southwest 119th Street and South Meridian Avenue. Vinnie Hamlet was ejected from the vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene. Chris Hamlet and the female passenger sustained injuries but survived.
The Oklahoma Highway Patrol conducted an internal self-investigation. The findings were presented to the District Attorney's Office, which determined that the deadly pursuit was justified.

Upon arrival, deputies encountered Daryl Dye, who had a knife and was running toward them. Deputies shot and killed him.

On January 11, 2021, at approximately 6 a.m., Edinburg Police Department officers responded to a domestic disturbance call at an apartment in the 1700 block of Orlando Street. On January 11, 2021, at approximately 5:16 p.m., Butler County Sheriff's deputies responded to a domestic violence report in the 6800 block of Yoakum Court at the Lakota Pointe Townhomes in Liberty Township. Junius Thomas, had allegedly kicked in the door of a residence, prompting the female occupant to flee and call 911. Upon arrival, deputies found Thomas armed and "extremely agitated." THE SWAT team was deployed. SWAT officers used an armored vehicle to breach the door. Thomas then appeared in the doorway and raised a gun toward the officers, at which point Deputy Ricky Phillips shot and killed Thomas. A subsequent autopsy revealed the presence of methamphetamine in Thomas's system. Four months later, Officer Phillips shot and injured someone during arrest again. A Butler County grand jury reviewed both incidents and declined to issue an indictment, determining that the use of force was justified.

The driver eventually lost control of the vehicle, causing it to leave the roadway and roll over. Following the crash, the vehicle's two occupants fled on foot. Officers apprehended one individual, while the other, Mark Bivins, 28, continued to flee. During the foot chase, Bivins reportedly shot at officers, who then shot and killed him.

At approximately 11:51 p.m., Oxendine allegedly pointed what appeared to be a firearm at the SWAT team. Deputies opened fire, killing him.

On January 8, 2021, at approximately 1 p.m., 25-year-old Mark Anthony Johnson was driving a 2007 Dodge pickup truck eastbound on U.S. Highway 190 at a high rate of speed. The vehicle had been reported stolen out of Houston. When Woodville Police Department officers attempted to initiate a traffic stop, Johnson fled, leading to a high-speed pursuit. While attempting to pass another vehicle on the right shoulder, Johnson lost control, causing the truck to skid across both lanes of U.S. 190. The vehicle left the roadway and struck several large trees, resulting in Johnson's death at the scene.

On 01/07/2021, at approximately 6: 20 a.m., members of the Michigan State Police Emergency Support Team were executing a high-risk search warrant at a residence located in the 400 block of East Broad Street, Chesaning, Michigan. The warrant was being served on behalf of the Bay Area Narcotics Enforcement Team (BAYANET). As the troopers approached the front of the house, John R. Neitling confronted them while armed with a gun. In response, the troopers shot and killed him.This was reportedly the third drug raid at his residence in the past five years. An internal investigation found no violation of departmental policies and the officers returned to work. Neitling was described in his obituary as someone who enjoyed fishing, camping, music, and spending time with family and friends, and he worked at Maximum Roofing among other odd jobs. He is survived by his wife, two sons, a stepdaughter, and extended family.

On January 5, 2021, Spokane Police officers were searching for a person connected to a December 27, 2020, homicide. They located Joseph Buskirk driving in North Spokane. When officers attempted to conduct a traffic stop, Buskirk tried to escape in his vehicle. Police disabled the vehicle, and after it came to a stop, Buskirk exited the car and allegedly began firing a weapon at officers. Police shot and killed him during the exchange.

On January 5, 2021, at approximately 10:23 a.m., Houston Police Department officers were conducting surveillance on suspected robbers near 16510 North Freeway. On January 5, 2021, at approximately 10:22 a.m., East Cleveland police officers initiated a pursuit of a vehicle believed to be stolen, occupied by three individuals. On January 5, 2021, at approximately 1:43 p.m., Newton Police responded to a 911 call from the owner of "Indulge!", a candy store located at 16 Lincoln Street, reporting a man with a knife inside the store. The individual, identified as 28-year-old Michael Conlon, resided in an apartment above the store. Upon police arrival, Conlon fled to the third floor of the building. Officers attempted to negotiate with him and employed less-lethal methods, including a beanbag shotgun and a Taser, in efforts to subdue him. Despite these attempts, Conlon reportedly advanced towards officers with the knife. Two Newton Police officers opened fire, striking Conlon. He was transported to Newton-Wellesley Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

On January 3, 2021, at approximately 12:30 p.m., Suffolk County Police officers were pursuing Malcolm Stewart, 29, who was allegedly driving a 2014 Mercedes-Benz in Medford, New York. Stewart ran a red light during the chase, causing his vehicle to collide with a 2021 Chevrolet driven by James Palumbo, 56, at the intersection of County Road 101 and Station Road. The crash resulted in Palumbo’s death.

Around 2:30 a.m., Homestead Police responded to a burglary-in-progress call at a home located at 100 NE Civic Court in Homestead, Florida. Officers began blocking off the area and reportedly saw a man running away. La Garion Smith, 27, allegedly produced a firearm and shot at the Homestead officers. In response, the officers shot and killed him.

Police responded to a call at 12:20 p.m. regarding Henry Martinez Jr. allegedly holding a woman, Carlen Mercado, against her will. Martinez was reported to have a knife and was threatening to kill Mercado. Officers and deputies arrived at the trailer home and engaged in hours of unsuccessful negotiations with Martinez. Attempts to force him out of the building using flashbangs and gas were unsuccessful. Martinez allegedly pointed a knife toward police, and they opened fire, killing him. On January 1, 2021, officers from the Marshall County Sheriff's Office attempted to stop a red pickup truck for a moving violation. The driver, Jeffrey L. Marvin, 63, fled, leading police on a pursuit into Starke County, Indiana. During the chase, Marvin allegedly swerved at several police vehicles.
