REASON FOR CHASE: At approximately 9:30 a.m., a Dinwiddie County Sheriff’s Office deputy operating radar observed a black Mercedes SUV speeding on Interstate 85 in Dinwiddie County. The deputy attempted a traffic stop and pursued the Mercedes when the driver continued.

NARRATIVE:
On 05/30/2021, a Dinwiddie County Sheriff’s Office deputy operating radar on Interstate 85 observed a black Mercedes SUV speeding and attempted to stop it. The deputy pursued the Mercedes from Interstate 85 onto Route 703.

The deputy lost sight of the Mercedes on Route 703 and terminated the pursuit. A few minutes later, Prince George County 911 received a call from Johnny’s Towing reporting that a black Mercedes matching the vehicle Dinwiddie deputies had pursued had pulled into the business and then left traveling northbound on South Crater Road/U.S. Route 301.

At approximately 10 a.m., the Mercedes crashed on Route 301 near the Courtland/I-95 exit in Prince George County. Investigators said the driver apparently lost control on the wet roadway, left the road and struck a tree. The driver was alone in the vehicle and died on impact.

Prince George County Police Department investigated the fatal crash.
