On March 18, 2021, a Virginia State Police trooper attempted to stop a 2008 Dodge Avenger driven by Stephanie T. Morton for speeding. Morton fled from the scene and was pursued by the officer. The vehicle later collided head-on with a 2020 Ford pickup truck driven by Kenneth E. Crosby Jr.. The Dodge then caught fire, and both Stephanie T. Morton and her passenger, Tia O. Porter, died in the crash. Porter was a passenger in the fleeing vehicle and was killed during the incident.
