On February 1, 2025, Santa Ana Police officers shot and killed 45-year-old Jose Velasquez at the Newport Beach Pier in Newport Beach, California. Velasquez was wanted in connection with the killing of 38-year-old Storm Wolf in Menifee, Riverside County. Police located Velasquez in a vehicle on N. Freeman Street in Santa Ana. When officers attempted a traffic stop, Velasquez continued driving, leading officers to Newport Beach Pier. There, officers opened fire, killing Velasquez. The incident is under investigation by the Orange County District Attorney's Office and the Menifee Police Department.
