OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :
On February 4, 2025, at approximately 8:13 p.m., Richmond Police Department officers attempted to apprehend a man wanted on a probation violation warrant related to domestic violence charges in the 2700 block of Main Avenue. The individual was located on the Union Pacific Railroad right of way near the 300 block of Carlson Boulevard. After a 32-minute standoff, during which officers attempted to de-escalate the situation, the man reportedly wielded an object that appeared to be a knife and charged at the officers. Officers opened fire, resulting in the man's death. It was later determined that the object was not a knife but a black knife sheath. The California Department of Justice has initiated an independent investigation into the incident.
