On 07/23/2023, Albuquerque Police Department officers attempted to stop a vehicle believed to be connected to an earlier incident involving a person reportedly displaying a firearm. Police were not certain whether the occupants of the vehicle were the individuals involved in that earlier incident when the pursuit began. The driver continued driving while police pursued through Albuquerque.
The pursuit continued at high speed until the vehicle crashed into the front yard of a residence near the intersection of Hazeldine Avenue and Broadway Boulevard SE, where it rolled over. One of the two occupants, a male passenger, sustained fatal injuries and died at the scene. The driver survived the crash.
