REASON FOR POLICE CHASE:
Running a stop sign. At approximately 1:20 a.m., a Hobart Police Department officer saw Gregory Jajuane Hoskins driving a gray SUV and alleged that Hoskins failed to stop at a stop sign. The officer attempted a traffic stop with emergency lights and siren, and Hoskins continued west on 39th Avenue while the officer pursued.

Hoskins' full name was Gregory Jajuane Hoskins. He was born on 12/22/1973 in Gary to Gregory Joseph Hoskins and Denise Louise Stingley and spent his life connected to the Gary community. His family called him Jajuane.

Hoskins was a father of four — three daughters, Shaiann Hoskins, Shannon Hoskins and Deja Phillips, and a son, Anias Edwards — and a grandfather of six. He was also survived by his parents, three sisters, a stepsister and stepbrother, nieces, nephews and a large extended family. His obituary said he would be deeply missed by those who knew him.

Hoskins was raised in a Christian family and baptized when he was young; later in life he joined the Hebrew Israelite religion. His funeral was held on 06/29/2021 at Smith, Bizzell & Warner Funeral Home in Gary.
