On January 1, 2021, officers from the Marshall County Sheriff's Office attempted to stop a red pickup truck for a moving violation. The driver, Jeffrey L. Marvin, 63, fled, leading police on a pursuit into Starke County, Indiana. During the chase, Marvin allegedly swerved at several police vehicles. After hitting stop sticks, Marvin continued driving until reaching a dead-end road. He then allegedly turned around and drove toward the pursuing officers, striking three police vehicles. As Marvin drove toward officers who were outside their vehicles, two deputies shot and killed him.
