The Martin County Sheriff's Office received a call about shots fired around 4 a.m. The suspect, Peter Joseph Wayne, reportedly shot at the home of the person who called 911. When deputies arrived, they found a man who had been shot. As deputies treated the victim, someone began shooting at them. The deputies shot and killed Wayne. Police reported that one of the gunman's initial victims, Joseph James Spellman, 54, was among the deceased, though it is unclear if he was alive when deputies arrived.
