On February 13, 2025, Sumner Police responded to a domestic violence call in the 1500 block of Daffodil Street Court East. Officers safely escorted a woman from the residence before a man inside barricaded himself, reportedly armed with a firearm. The Pierce County regional SWAT team was activated, bringing armored vehicles, ballistic shields, breaching equipment, and sniper-observer units to establish a secure perimeter. Negotiators attempted to reach the man by loudspeaker and phone, while tactical operators maintained overwatch and prepared less-lethal and lethal options.
Spotlights and surveillance tools were deployed to monitor all approaches to the residence. While these contact efforts were underway, officers heard a single gunshot from inside. SWAT did not immediately enter, instead obtaining a search warrant to ensure legal entry. Once authorized, a controlled entry was executed under armed cover and tactical lighting. Inside, officers located the man deceased from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, with the firearm recovered nearby. No officers or civilians were injured, and the scene was processed for ballistic and forensic evidence.
