OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :

On February 20, 2025, at approximately 8:00 a.m., deputies from the Adams County Sheriff’s Office and officers from the Brighton Police Department attempted to serve a search warrant at a residence in the 20400 block of East 160th Avenue in Brighton, Colorado. A woman inside refused to cooperate, claiming to have hostages. Law enforcement immediately escalated to a tactical response, activating SWAT and establishing a full containment perimeter with armored vehicles, sniper-observer teams, and entry elements equipped with ballistic shields and breaching tools.
Negotiators secured the safe release of other occupants from the home. Throughout the standoff, tactical surveillance was maintained using aerial drones, long-range optics, and secure radio coordination between perimeter and command elements. Around 11:30 a.m., as SWAT officers prepared to make entry under armed cover, the woman opened fire, striking three deputies. SWAT returned fire, forcing her back into the residence.
As the team repositioned, officers heard a single gunshot from inside. A fire was observed starting on the property shortly afterward. Once it was safe to re-enter, SWAT located the woman deceased from a gunshot wound. The weapon was recovered near her body. The 17th Judicial Critical Response Team is leading the investigation, including ballistics analysis, body-worn camera review, and forensic examination of the fire’s origin.
