OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :
On 02/21/2025 at approximately 8:30 p.m., Clay County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a 911 call from a rural Harvard residence reporting a domestic disturbance. Upon arrival, deputies located 35-year-old Heather Gray deceased from multiple gunshot wounds inside the home. Officers found 39-year-old Toby Gray outside the residence suffering from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Three young children were present in the home at the time; they were unharmed and taken into protective care. Law enforcement transported Gray to Aurora Memorial Hospital and later flew him to Bryan Health West Campus in Lincoln for treatment. He was in custody and charged with first-degree murder and use of a firearm to commit a felony in connection with Heather Gray’s death. On the morning of 02/28/2025, Nebraska State Patrol officials stated that Gray was pronounced deceased at the hospital from his self-inflicted injuries. The Nebraska State Patrol continued its investigation of the homicide and related events.
