On February 26, 2025, at approximately 2:30 a.m., California Highway Patrol officers attempted to stop a van driven by 21-year-old Seijah Rivera for unknown reasons. Rivera did not stop. Police escalated a chase, which ended on Sunnybrae Avenue. Rivera exited the vehicle holding a handgun, and officers opened fire, killing him.
