On March 12, 2025, Elbert County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a domestic disturbance call involving a man armed with a handgun inside a fifth-wheel trailer on County Road 77. Deputies ordered the man to exit, but he refused to comply. Initial attempts to end the standoff involved firing less-lethal rounds, which struck him and caused him to complain of back pain, yet he remained barricaded inside.
The situation escalated when deputies fired pepper ball rounds into the trailer. The man responded by firing two gunshots from inside. Three deputies immediately returned fire with live rounds. After the gunfire exchange, there was no further communication from inside.
For over an hour, officers maintained containment, using drones to monitor the trailer’s interior from multiple angles. The drones relayed video to command, showing the man lying motionless on the floor. A SWAT entry team, equipped with ballistic shields, tactical armor, and breaching tools, moved in to secure the trailer and confirm he was deceased. The scene was then turned over to investigators for evidence recovery and documentation. The man’s identity has not been released publicly.
