OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :
Christon Devante Collins, a 27-year-old Black male and U.S. Army veteran, was found unresponsive in the DeKalb County Jail on March 13, 2024. Surveillance footage showed Collins stumbling in the common area before collapsing. He was moved to his cell by another person and later discovered by jail staff. Collins was transported to a hospital, where he died two days later. An autopsy determined the cause of death was a fentanyl overdose. A former inmate was later charged in connection with supplying Collins with fentanyl.
