On March 17, 2023, 33-year-old Gierra Marie Perdue was found unresponsive in her cell at the Franklin County Jail on Jackson Pike in Columbus, Ohio. She had been incarcerated for nine days following her arrest due to a probation violation related to a prior felony drug possession conviction. Investigations revealed that jail medical staff failed to conduct the required wellness checks every 10 minutes. Additionally, there were attempts to falsify log documents after her death. An internal investigation led to the termination of the involved medical staff by Armor Health, the contracted medical provider for the jail. Two years later, on March 17, 2025, Perdue's mother filed a wrongful death and negligence lawsuit against the medical staff, alleging reckless and malicious actions that contributed to her daughter's death.
