On March 25, 2025, a man suspected of robbing a bank on Cox Creek Parkway in Florence, Alabama, was killed during a shootout with law enforcement after a vehicle chase. Officers had been called earlier in the day for a welfare check due to concerns over the man’s mental health. The man fled and allegedly shot at officers during the pursuit. He struck a Florence officer in the shoulder and also injured a female bystander. Both the officer and the woman were hospitalized in stable condition. Deputies and Florence Police opened fire, killing the man. The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency is investigating.
