OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :

On March 22, 2025, at approximately 1:52 p.m., the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department received a call from a suicide hotline concerning 68-year-old Robert Fanello, who was reportedly suicidal and armed. Fanello indicated he had been physically abusive toward his wife over the preceding two days. Upon arrival, officers learned that Fanello was refusing to disarm and that his wife remained in the garage with him. As officers approached, they heard a gunshot from inside; Fanello later explained he fired because he felt the police response was delayed. Officers observed Fanello outside his home holding a firearm and attempted to negotiate, ordering him to drop the weapon. When Fanello pointed the gun at the officers, Officer Larry Jones discharged his weapon, striking Fanello. Fanello was taken into custody and transported to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The LVMPD’s Critical Incident Review Team is investigating the incident to assess the officers' procedures, tactics, and training related to this use of force.
