At approximately 2:48 p.m. on April 3, 2025, a Montana Highway Patrol trooper located a vehicle tied to a man wanted on a no-bond warrant from Nebraska for threatening to use explosives. When the trooper attempted a traffic stop near Big Timber, the driver fled. Police escalated a chase. A PIT maneuver was attempted but failed. The man fired at troopers, and troopers opened fire. The suspect was pronounced dead at the scene. He was reportedly suicidal, armed, and considered dangerous. The Montana Department of Criminal Investigation is leading the investigation.
