Around noon on April 4, 2025, an Arizona Department of Public Safety trooper observed a woman walking along the shoulder of westbound Interstate 10 near Park Avenue in Tucson. When the trooper approached her, an altercation occurred, during which the trooper shot the woman. A large butcher's knife was found at the scene, but it is unclear if the woman was armed with it during the incident. The trooper was not injured and provided aid to the woman until emergency medical services arrived. She was transported to a local hospital, where she was pronounced dead. The investigation is ongoing.
