Around 3:00 a.m. on April 4, 2025, Monroe County Sheriff's deputies responded to a report of an armed man threatening a woman in the 1900 block of Bluff Road in Prairie du Rocher. A standoff lasting several hours followed. Deputies attempted to negotiate and deployed a Taser, which failed. The man then pointed a gun at deputies. A Monroe County deputy opened fire and shot him. He was transported to a hospital, where he died. No deputies were injured. The man’s identity has not been released.
