OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :
On April 8, 2025, around 1:18 a.m., a male individual entered the emergency room at Sentara Albemarle Medical Center in Elizabeth City, North Carolina, and pointed a firearm at hospital staff. An unarmed security guard attempted to stop him and was injured. Deputies from the Pasquotank County Sheriff's Office arrived and encountered the man in the emergency triage room. After the man pointed his weapon at them, three unnamed deputies opened fire. The man was pronounced dead at the scene. The North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation is conducting an independent investigation.
