OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :
On April 4, 2025, around 3:00 a.m., a Fort Wayne police officer attempted to stop a speeding vehicle. The driver did not stop. Officers escalated a pursuit that ended when the vehicle crashed into a tree near Sherborne Boulevard and Stafford Drive and caught fire. Both occupants escaped and were transported to a hospital. Jamela Renee Hathaway, 28, was later pronounced dead. The passenger sustained serious injuries. The case is under investigation.
