On April 5, 2025, at approximately 10:00 a.m., James R. Ingerson was found unresponsive in his cell at the Northern State Correctional Facility in Newport. Prior to his death, Ingerson had reported feeling unwell and was receiving care for an unspecified medical issue. His cellmate discovered him unresponsive and alerted corrections officers. Emergency medical services pronounced Ingerson dead at the scene.
