On 12/17/2025 Corvallis Police and Benton County deputies responded to a residence on NW Sequoia Avenue where an armed man had barricaded himself. On 12/16/2025 the Chatham County Sheriff’s Office responded to an armed standoff at a home on Pittsboro Goldston Road that turned into a hostage situation. Deputies from the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office tried to pull over the moped Brown was riding early on Dec. 16, 2025, for a traffic violation. Brown did not stop and continued riding the moped with a passenger, which led deputies to pursue him. The moped left the roadway, went through a grass median, and then crashed into a support of a closed gas station on Gordon Highway.
