On December 22, 2025, officers with the San Diego Police Department responded to a standoff at a residence in the 4400 block of 40th Street in the Normal Heights neighborhood of San Diego. During the response, officers reported hearing sounds they initially believed to be gunfire. After a prolonged standoff, officers entered the home and found a man dead inside. Authorities later clarified that the sound initially believed to be gunfire was the result of a self-inflicted gunshot wound. The death is being investigated by San Diego police, and no additional details about the events leading up to the standoff have been publicly released.
