On April 2, 2025, Robin Lee Hanson was found unresponsive in his cell at the Red Lake Detention Center. He was transported to the Red Lake Indian Health Service Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Hanson had been in custody for nearly three weeks on charges related to aiding and abetting trespassing. His family reported that he had preexisting health conditions, including diabetes, high blood pressure, and kidney issues, and allege that he did not receive adequate medical care while incarcerated.
