OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :
On the night of April 11, 2025, Columbia County deputies attempted a traffic stop after observing a white Ford F-150 driving without headlights and swerving on Lewiston Road. The driver pulled over briefly, then sped off. Police pursued the vehicle to William Few Parkway near the Kroger rear entrance, where it came to a stop. Officers approached and found Damien Taitague with a self-inflicted gunshot wound. He was transported to Doctors Hospital and later pronounced dead. Taitague had worked as a full-time Augusta firefighter since January 2022.
