On April 11, 2025, a 43-year-old man entered multiple homes in Lake Wales, Florida, asking residents to shoot and kill him. He was reported to be armed with a knife and had prior arrests for methamphetamine use. Deputies Lindsey Clem and Clint Wofford responded to the scene. The man confronted Deputy Clem with a knife, refusing commands to drop it and requesting to be killed. Deputy Wofford arrived shortly after and, upon the man's continued refusal to disarm, fired multiple shots, fatally wounding him. Life-saving measures were attempted, but the man was pronounced dead at the scene.
