OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :
On April 14, 2025, at approximately 3:00 a.m., Rockingham County Sheriff's deputies responded to a call regarding a man with a knife threatening to kill himself at a residence in the 6000 block of Rawley Pike. Deputies attempted to communicate with the man, but he refused to engage. The man allegedly moved, approaching the deputies. Non-lethal weapons were fired. A deputy then fired his service weapon, striking the man once. Emergency assistance was provided, and the man was transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The Virginia State Police are investigating the incident.
