On April 14, 2025, NYPD officers responded to reports of a man with a knife at 30th Avenue and 31st Street in Astoria. Officers encountered a 61-year-old man with a 14-inch knife. Despite deployment of Tasers, he allegedly moved toward them. Officers opened fire. The man was taken to Elmhurst Hospital and pronounced dead.
