On April 16, 2025, Anaheim police responded to a shooting at the Kona Motel on North Brookhurst Street in Anaheim. The male driver suspected in the shooting fled in a white pickup truck, prompting a police pursuit through multiple Orange County cities. During the chase, the man drove into oncoming traffic and through intersections at high speed. Officers deployed spike strips and executed a PIT maneuver near West Memory Lane in Santa Ana. After the truck crashed and began to emit smoke, officers approached and opened fire, killing the driver. A passenger was taken into custody without incident. Police recovered a handgun from the vehicle.
