On December 23, 2024, Mason Yancy, 31, was arrested by Grapevine police after he collapsed at a vape shop. He was transported to Baylor Scott & White Medical Center, then booked into the Tarrant County Jail on December 24. Yancy had diabetes and was reportedly denied essential medical care, including insulin, while in custody. He collapsed and died in jail on December 27. A private autopsy concluded he suffered a heart attack caused by diabetic shock. His family has demanded the removal of Sheriff Bill Waybourn and the head of the Texas Commission on Jail Standards, citing systemic failures in the jail’s medical protocols.
