On April 21, 2025, Harris County Sheriff’s deputies responded to reports of a man firing shots from the balcony of a third-floor apartment at 5550 Dancy Road in northwest Houston. Arriving units confirmed active gunfire and took cover while containing the area. The man barricaded himself inside the apartment, firing multiple rounds in the direction of deputies. The situation escalated into a full tactical deployment, and the Harris County SWAT team was activated.
SWAT established a secure perimeter using armored BearCat vehicles, ballistic shields, and rooftop sniper-observer positions. Negotiators bore down on the residence for over two hours via loudspeakers, while tactical operators monitored movement using drones for aerial surveillance and ground-based robots to approach entry points and assess the interior. Chemical agents were deployed into the apartment in an effort to force the man out, designed to impair breathing, cause eye and skin irritation, and limit his ability to maintain control of his weapon.
At approximately 10:00 a.m., the barricaded man emerged onto the balcony holding a pistol and pointing it toward SWAT personnel. Four Harris County SWAT deputies fired simultaneously, striking and killing him on scene. The operation was coordinated with the District Attorney’s Office, which, along with the Sheriff’s Office, is conducting an active investigation. The identity of the deceased has not yet been released, and no body camera or drone footage has been made public.
