On April 14, 2024, Syracuse Police and Onondaga County Sheriff's deputies responded to a residence on Darien Drive in Salina, New York, after tracking a fleeing vehicle to the location. As officers approached, 33-year-old Christopher R. Murphy ambushed them with an AR-15-style rifle. He fatally shot Syracuse Police Officer Michael Jensen and Onondaga County Sheriff's Lieutenant Michael Hoosock. Officers returned fire and killed Murphy. All three men were pronounced dead at Upstate University Hospital.
