On April 22, 2025, at approximately 10:17 p.m., Montebello police attempted a traffic stop near Beverly Boulevard and Hay Street. The female driver did not stop. Police escalated a pursuit that lasted fewer than 20 seconds and covered one block. The vehicle, a Toyota Camry, crashed into a tree at Ashiya Park. Officers arrived to find the driver severely injured. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
