On April 23, 2025, Fairfax County police conducted a traffic stop near the 4000 block of Majestic Lane in the Fair Oaks area. Officers pulled over 36-year-old Jamal Wali for speeding and expired plates. Wali reportedly became hostile, refused to identify himself, and informed police he was armed. As officers commanded him to stop reaching for his weapon, Wali opened fire, shooting two officers in the arms. A third officer opened fire and shot Wali. Wali died at the scene. The officers survived with non-life-threatening injuries. The case remains under investigation, and body camera footage is under review.
