OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :

On April 20, 2025, at approximately 8:20 a.m., Prince George's County police responded to a domestic-related incident in the 8300 block of Indian Head Highway in Fort Washington. Upon arrival, officers found a man and a woman with critical stab wounds. Aevon Bucknor Jr. of Oxon Hill, allegedly set fire to the apartment before fleeing the scene. The fire displaced eight adults and six children.

Around 10:15 a.m., officers located Bucknor near the intersection of St. George Boulevard and Potomac Passage in Oxon Hill. Bucknor was armed with a knife and advanced toward the officers. Corporal Phillip Johnson and Acting Lieutenant James Martinez opened fire, striking Bucknor. Officers administered life-saving measures until emergency medical services arrived. Bucknor was transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The two stabbing victims were hospitalized in critical but stable condition. The Maryland Attorney General’s Independent Investigations Division is conducting an investigation into the shooting.
