On April 22, 2025, at approximately 8:15 p.m., 37-year-old Anthony Terrell Johnson was found unresponsive in his cell at the Raymond Detention Center in Hinds County, Mississippi. Johnson had been arrested on April 20, 2025, by Capitol Police on charges of simple assault and auto theft. According to Hinds County Sheriff Tyree Jones, Johnson appeared to have been assaulted, but the official cause of death is pending investigation. The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation is conducting the investigation into the circumstances surrounding Johnson's death.
